We are proud to have been a part of the transformative journey with Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s Project Ikuna, being one of the providers to deliver training to Pacific learners and helping to empower their personal and professional growth.
Today, we had the privilege of attending a wonderful Christmas celebration alongside other providers, where we shared stories, reflected on successes, and connected with others who share our passion for making a difference in the community.
It was truly inspiring to hear how the programme has impacted so many lives and to celebrate the resilience, achievements, and cultural richness of our Pacific learners.
Thank you to everyone involved in Project Ikuna for making this experience so rewarding. We look forward to continuing this important work and building a brighter 2025 together.
What is Project Ikuna?
Case study – Simon & Iuni: Building a Better Future Through Project Ikuna
Simon and Iuni (Iuni is born in New Zealand) migrated from Samoa to provide a better life for their three children. Their journey was not without challenges, but their determination to succeed brought them to Project Ikuna.
During his training, Simon, who worked at Fisher & Paykel, faced a devastating setback when he was let go due to restructuring. This event deeply affected him, leading to a period of depression. Through Project Ikuna, Simon received not only technical training but also crucial pastoral care, including access to support services that helped him regain confidence and focus on his career goals. Meanwhile, Iuni, a dedicated mother, with a few part-time gigs, expressed a desire to explore more stable work opportunities.
With comprehensive support and encouragement, both Simon and Iuni successfully completed the Ikuna and COA training. Today, they are employed full-time at SecureFlight, a workplace that aligns with their family needs, offering flexible shifts and a stable income. Their success story highlights the transformative impact of Project Ikuna in enabling individuals and families to rebuild and thrive.
